How to write it, step by step

  1. Write capital I and carry its ending stroke straight into the next word.
  2. Join the rest of the letters without lifting your pencil: l, o, v, e, y, o and u.
  3. Watch the high joins (ov, ve and ou): after b, o, v or w, the next letter starts at the midline, not the baseline.
  4. Let the y drop below the baseline and loop back up through it.
  5. Leave a gap about the width of a small o between words.

Tips for each letter

I
Writing it like a print I with bars. Cursive I is one curving stroke that starts low.
l
Making the loop so thin it disappears, so l looks like a tall i without a dot. Keep the loop open.
o
Dropping the ending to the baseline. Cursive o ends high, so the next letter starts from the midline.
v
Dropping the ending to the baseline. v ends high, at the midline.
e
Making the loop too big, so e looks like l. The loop stays below the midline.
y
Leaving the loop open below the line. Bring the tail back up so it crosses at the baseline.
u
Rounding the bottom points into a w. Cursive u has two points at the top, not three.

All lowercase
